On Friday, May 12, 2023, at the Conference Hall of the University of Piraeus, the Knowledge and Innovation Community, in collaboration with the Department of Industrial Management & Technology and the Postgraduate Program in Industrial Management & Technology of the University of Piraeus, successfully organized the research seminar on “Innovation in the Supply Chain”.

On Friday, May 12, 2023, at the Conference Hall of the University of Piraeus, the Knowledge and Innovation Community, in collaboration with the Department of Industrial Management & Technology and the Postgraduate Program in Industrial Management & Technology of the University of Piraeus, successfully organized the research seminar on “Innovation in the Supply Chain”.

The event was attended by market executives, academic staff, postgraduate and undergraduate students.

The Director of the Postgraduate Program in Industrial Management & Technology, Professor Gregory Chondrokoukis, welcomed the participants, declared the start of the seminar, and informed them about the program’s agenda.

The Deputy Mayor for Planning & Sustainable Development of the Municipality of Piraeus, Mr. Dimitrios Karydis, in his address, stated:

“We are particularly pleased because in recent years we have had a very close relationship and collaboration with the University of Piraeus, as well as with all the productive bodies of the city in the significant fields of the Blue Economy, given that Piraeus has the country’s largest port. Upon the initiative of our Mayor Ioannis Moralis, the Municipality of Piraeus has developed a comprehensive strategy for Blue Development issues for several years now and continues to undertake significant actions with an emphasis on innovation and digital transformation to support and modernize existing and new businesses. This specific action for the digital transformation of the supply chain provides significant services and added value to transportation operations under sustainable terms.”

Following the event, greetings were delivered by the Vice-Rector for Research and Lifelong Learning, Mr. Demosthenis Kyriazis, the Vice-Rector for Economics, Planning, and Development, Ms. Styliani Sofianopoulou, and the President of the Department of Industrial Management & Technology, Mr. Vasileios Dedousis.

Subsequently, three presentations took place:

  1. Presentation on “eFTI – Electronic Freight Transport Information” by Mr. Nikolaos Rahaniotis, Associate Professor of the Department of Industrial Management & Technology at the University of Piraeus, as part of the dissemination of research outcomes from the project “Support for the Creation and Development of Knowledge and Innovation Community for the Blue Economy (KIC-GO) in Piraeus”,
  2. Presentation on “Secure Management of Supply Chain Traceability using Distributed and Integrated Security Mechanisms” by Mr. Thomas Dasaklis, Associate Professor of the School of Social Sciences at the Hellenic Open University, within the framework of disseminating research outcomes from the “ARTEMIS” project,
  3. Presentation on “Supporting Innovation and Cultivating Entrepreneurial Culture” by Mr. Symeon Retalis, Professor of the Department of Digital Systems at the University of Piraeus, as part of the dissemination of research outcomes from the project “Supporting Actions for Entrepreneurship, Innovation, and Maturation to Exploit Research Activities and New Products and Services Developed at the University of Piraeus” (Scientific Coordinator Professor G. Chondrokoukis).

This was followed by questions and a constructive discussion on the challenges of the Supply Chain, moderated by Mr. Nikolaos Rahaniotis.

The seminar concluded with a light meal served at the Events Hall of the University of Piraeus.
